Packaged sweet potato chips may seem healthier than regular potato chips, but they’re still loaded with sodium and fat. But you can make sweet potato chips in the air fryer and significantly decrease the salt and oil, while still making an irresistible snack.

Offer these Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips at your next party, game day, Thanksgiving meal, or packed into your kids’ lunchboxes. They make a perfect dipper, too!

This is one of my favorite ways to cook sweet potatoes. I also love making sweet potato fries!

You only need a few ingredients to make these Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips, and you likely have most of them in your pantry already. Here’s what you need:

  • Sweet potatoes: I like to use orange-fleshed jewel yams, but you can use any sweet potatoes you like.
  • Olive oil: Tossing the sweet potato slices in olive oil before air frying them gives them an irresistible crunch. Don’t use cooking spray in nonstick air fryers. The accelerant in the cooking spray will erode the nonstick coating on your air fryer basket.
  • Paprika: Regular sweet paprika is great here, or you can substitute a mix of ¼ teaspoon of smoked paprika and ¼ teaspoon sweet paprika.
  • Salt & pepper: I like to use a lot of pepper to add a little kick that balances out the sweetness of the sweet potatoes.

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips are easy to make! Here’s how:

  1. Slice the sweet potatoes: Slice the potatoes as thinly as you can. A mandoline comes in really handy here—with it you can slice the sweet potatoes very thinly and evenly so that they cook at the same rate.
  2. Soak the potatoes: Put the potato slices into a large bowl, cover with cold water, and let soak for 20 minutes.
  3. Drain the potatoes: Drain the potato slices and arrange them in a single layer on a clean dishtowel or layered paper towels. Pat dry with a towel or paper towel. Let dry for 20 minutes.
  4. Toss with oil and seasonings: Toss the dry potato slices in a bowl with the oil, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Put them in the basket: Arrange the sweet potato slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer, being careful not to overlap them. You’ll need to cook them in batches to avoid crowding the air fryer basket. You don’t need to preheat air fryer.
  6. Air fry the chips until crispy: Cook each batch of chips until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Let cool and enjoy!

How to serve these delicious chips

These crispy sweet potato chips are perfect for dipping. Try them with Raita, Cilantro Mint Chutney, Zhoug Sauce, or a classic onion dip.
