Vietnamese peanut sauce is the perfect dipping sauce to go with fresh summer rolls. It also doubles as a sauce for noodles, satay, or even as a salad dressing.
Peanut sauce is, hands down, my favorite dipping sauce or sauce for noodles. I have a recipe for a Thai Peanut Sauce that contains coconut milk and simmers on the stove.
This Vietnamese Peanut Sauce, though, is easier than the Thai one. It requires only 6 common, easy-to-find ingredients that are simply stirred together. There is no cooking at all!
I’ve got the perfect recipe for vegan summer rolls to go with this easy 6 ingredient peanut sauce, too.
What ingredients do you need?
This recipe for Vietnamese Peanut Sauce uses just 6 everyday ingredients. You probably have these ingredients in your pantry. If not, they’re easy to find at the supermarket or grocery store.
- Creamy peanut butter (preferably no-sugar-added peanut butter)
- Soy sauce
- Honey (or maple syrup if vegan)
- Hoisin sauce
- Sriracha or chile paste
- Sesame oil
HOW DO YOU MAKE vietnamese PEANUT SAUCE?
To make this easy peanut sauce, simply whisk the ingredients together to combine well. Serve it at room temperature as a dipping sauce, or toss it with hot, just-cooked noodles.
Add a bit of water and/or lime or lemon juice to thin it out and toss it with salad.
What do you serve it with?
This recipe makes the perfect Vietnamese Peanut Dipping Sauce to go with Vietnamese Summer Rolls.
It also pairs beautifully with Thai Chicken Satay and makes a great sauce for noodles.
Add a little lime juice and water to thin it a bit and then use it as a savory salad dressing.

Have been looking for an easy peanut sauce recipe since our last visit to Vietnam and am so glad I found this! Made it with fresh spring rolls last night and it came out amazing. Will definitely be making this a lot in the future. Thanks for the great tips!
Tried your recipe and unfortunately, I didn’t have lime available so I used lemon instead and I added cayenne pepper to it because I like it a little spicy, and it tasted so good! I didn’t have rice paper too to make the vegetable rolls so I kinda made my own twist, chopped the veggies into thin slices and added this peanut sauce on top like a normal salad recipe and it still works. 🙂
Ahh, one of my favorite Asian dishes! I tried this recipe and it is delicious specially paired with Robins’ Vietnamese rolls recipe which i also used. I just added some shrimp in some of the rolls. Perfect!
By far the best version of peanut sauce I ever made! My family loves “lumpiang sariwa” (fresh lumpia) and peanut sauce is the best partner! Father went crazy for this sauce.
I’m quite picky about peanut sauce but this one is so good, I’ve started putting it on everything. It’s just the right amount of sweet and spice. Any time I find my meal is a little blah, this peanut sauce is the solution.
